Joy Machine

A nationally exhibiting artist with an unmistakable visual language, Jeffie Brewer has built a career creating sculpture that is immediately recognizable. His work appears in exhibitions, public spaces, and museum and private collections across the country. Each piece begins with a doodle, often inspired or supported by a great story, and is meticulously crafted from steel and paint by Jeffie and a core team of artisans in his East Texas studio workshop.

"Joy Machine" brings the Nacogdoches artist's life and work together in a unique, comprehensive book that is part memoir and part career retrospective. The book pairs more than 160 full-color pages of finished sculpture, early sketches, studio photography, and process material with Brewer’s candid, frequently funny accounts of the people, places, creative experiments, and other meaningful vignettes that shape the underlying philosophy behind his visible art.
